I was checking on your website to see your fire department as you have our Liberator system on order on a new fire apparatus order. I thank you for your business! But more importantly your 9-11 memorial is awesome ! Thank you for your service and your commitment to community.

I found a commemorative stein of your 75th anniversary in a junk shop in Sarasota, Florida the other day. It is in pristine condition and simply lovely. My son is a Deputy Chief in Perlington, Mississippi and he will be getting the stein for a Christmas gift. It will be loved and treasured. God bless and protect all our brothers and sisters!

I recently attended a party at the fire House and just wanted to express that when I visited the memorial that evening I was deeply touched. The memorial was created so tastefully. I thank all of you that participated in creating it for all of us.

The 911 Memorial is beautiful...finally a place where everyone and anyone may come to reflect on what the steel piece represents...hopefully a place that our young will use as a living memorial to all who were lost on that September day ten years ago on 9/11/01.
The men responsible for putting the "garden of remembrance" together for all of us are truly some of the most dedicated, committed and selfless men I've had the privilege to know. Countless hours under very stressing conditions were endured by men who plain and simple said, "We can do this" and.......THEY DID!
I'm always proud of the men and women of The Pawling Volunteer Fire Department. Sharon Boo

Wow, congrats on the website, PFD! Looks wonderful!
I have fond childhood memories of the annual August carnival. My uncles were both chiefs (Richard & Larry Turner) and active members when they were not chief. I grew up 2 doors down from the fire department on Memorial ave., and the sound of the Plectron was a constant in my house. (My mother & I lived w/my grandparents, uncles got them a plectron because they were at the house so often.) I even knew the Pawling tones when I heard them!
Many of my family have been members, and the fire department was always a big part our family's lives. We used to have a family reunion at my Uncle Joe & Aunt Lee's Bauer's house (I think it was south on Rt 22), and one year the plectron went off and almost all the menfolk ran off!
I also remember the 8:05pm whistle to signal the beginning of the weekly meeting, and of course, the 5pm whistle, the cue for me and my neighborhood friends, because our moms would tell us to head home when the 5 o'clock whistle blew.
I was both sad and happy when the Firehouse moved to South st. Even though I had moved away, and knew many more people had moved *TO* Pawling & the space for more equipment was much needed, I loved the old building & saw it as another thing changing my hometown.
One thing, though...on page 10 of the PDF copy of the 100th anniversary booklet, it says Garvin Brunow is the man on the right in the front row. I don't think that is correct, I believe the man on the far left in the back row is Garvin. He lived a few doors up from me on Smith Street, next door to the Brittons, with his family and I remember him being an extremely thin man. Unless there was a Jr./Sr. situation?
Anyway, how about some more old pics, maybe of carnivals, parade poses, etc.?
Does anyone remember the firehouse's involvement in the Memorial Day parade and celebration? I remember them giving out ice cream cups to kids at the firehouse; I think it was before the parade. I don't remember much more than that, I was very young, under 10.
Thanks again for the site, it brings back so many happy memories!

Many thanks for the quick response shown in controlling the brush fire that was anonymously set on my property on April 16th. You did a good job, and promptly.
My son chuck called me the other day and said he was at station one for a tool sale so I got to thinking about the old days and decided once again to check out the web site. I was saddened to see that a long time friend and brother officers has gone home to be with the lord. Rich and I where the last 1st & 2nd Assistant Chiefs. Just before we moved to South street we changed the by-laws and named the officers as District Cheif, Deputy Chief, and Station Chiefs. At that time Richard Turner was District Chief, Richard Muller was Deputy Chief and I was Station One Chief. I noticed that Kathy Riley had asked for my e-mail. If your still around Kathy I would love to hear from you and anyone else who remembers me, or just wants to chat about the old days. My first fire was Trinty Pawling School and that was the night we lost Nick Taska. I hope all is well with the department and everyone in it. My condolences to Tyrell and the family. Rich was a great guy. My e-mail is driver52648@yahoo.com.

Hello to all members of the Pawling Fire Department. I left town in 1985 so there probably isn't anyone around now that was active back then. I was in the Department from 2/1969-10/1985. I held several offices in my career the last one being Deputy Chief from 4/1983-4/1985. Hope the department is still going strong and everyone stays safe.
