A History of Service Since 1895

The Pawling Fire Department Celebrated its 100th Year Anniversary in 1995.  We've made available these historic resources for your review, our 50th annual book, 75th annual book & 100th annual book ,which chronicle the development of the department from its formation in 1895.

Interesting Facts. Did you know...

• the department officially came into being on October 1, 1895, when sanctioned by the Village of Pawling
• the organization originally consisted of 39 members in two stations
• in the early days, the fireman protected approximately one square mile with hand drawn equipment
• in 1897, John Dutcher presented the department with its first protective gear
• the annual Pawling Fire Department Carnival had its inaugural year in 1922
• the cornerstone of Station One was laid in 1983 in response to the need for more equipment and technology to protect the Town and Village of Pawling
